Al Jazeera ‘Start Here’ programme with CUSP director Tim Jackson, taking an international view on the COVID-19 health and economic crisis—and where to start to ‘build back better’.

The global economy is shutting down; the Corona-virus pandemic has caused an unprecedented human and health crisis. The measures necessary to contain the virus and to address the health impacts of the crisis have triggered an economic downturn of enormous proportions.

What will it take to recover?, Al Jazeera asks, taking a broad international view. Well-presented and in simple terms, the ‘Start Here’ programme investigates the global economic interdependencies leading to what is expected to become the worst recession since the Great Depression; with devastating fallouts especially in the poorest Nations.

Hosted by Sandra Gathmann, discussants include CUSP director Prof Tim Jackson, South African Shadow Health Minister Siviwe Gwarube, and Allam Ahmed from the World Association for Sustainable Development. The video can be accessed on the Al Jazeera website (also embedded on top).
