Material Concerns | Play by Tim Jackson

Material Concerns

BBC Radio 4; 16 May 1988
Producer: Janet Whitaker
29 min

Everything is comical in the face of death, wrote the Austrian philosopher Thomas Bernstein. Material concerns takes a darkly comic look at the cruel labyrinth of personal bereavement. Millie has been married to Albert (Alan Dudley) for over 40 years. How is she supposed to feel when he quietly slips away from her? And how can she best ensure that his memorial (if not his memory) will last forever.

Starring the legendary Thora Hird as Millie and Alan Dudley as Albert, Material Concerns was Tim’s second radio play and the first of a long-running collaboration with producer Janet Whitburn.
