From the French Ministry’s website:
At the initiative of the French Minister of the Economy, Finance, and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, Bruno Le Maire, the ‘Rendez-vous de Bercy’ event series brings together internationally renowned experts from the economic, academic, and institutional realms to exchange and compare perspectives on current themes. The first two editions in November 2017 and January 2019 focused respectively on ‘Technological disruptions and inequalities’ and ‘Redefining capitalism in the 21st century: more wealth, less inequality.’ This third edition was devoted to environmental issues and economic growth in the face of climate change.
The obligation to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions to comply with the objectives of the Paris Agreement without sacrificing economic prosperity poses a major challenge for the economy, both nationally and internationally. Climate related events have increasingly visible consequences, affecting humans, economies, and finances. They urge us to act by adapting in a way that integrates both society and the economy. This challenge can only be met through a shared diagnosis and commitment from all stakeholders.
The event programme featured a variety of view points on the subject matter. Speakers of the day included CUSP director Tim Jackson, Sandrine Dixson-Declève (Club of Rome), Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas (IMF) and Bill Gates. For further details and the recording, please see the ministry’s website.
